By measuring the electrical resistance during controlled air drying, tooth variables like porosity, water mobility and ion concentration are determined! Due to low current < 3ľA, low frequency ~21.3 Hz and safe guarded electronic measurements can be carried out in-vivo and in-vitro. By measuring at regular time intervals tooth decay and healing can be visualized.
The system is painless and safe for the patient. X-rays can be avoided and the diagnosis / check-up offers the patient insight into his or her oral hygiene.
The measurement system fits in (with) the existing routine and no special knowledge nor extra time is required. It may become part of the check-up that is performed by the assistant or dental hygienist
Research
Evaluation studies show good correlation with mineral content of enamel and root dentine, lesion depth, very small structural changes and chemical activity.
Software
By serial communication and using specific ECM software combined with other visual observations the ECM readings can be transferred to a Personal Computer. |
